10 Tips for Restringing a Guitar

  1. Make sure you have the right type of strings for your guitar. Different types of guitars require different types of strings.
  2. Unwind the old strings from the tuning pegs, and remove them from the bridge.
  3. Clean the fretboard and bridge with a soft cloth to remove any dirt and grime.
  4. Position the bridge pins in their holes, and thread the new strings through.
  5. Make sure the strings are evenly placed around the bridge and the tuning pegs.
  6. Tighten each string to the correct tension, and tune them to the correct pitch.
  7. If necessary, adjust the string height at the bridge and nut.
  8. Once the strings are in tune and the bridge is adjusted, use a guitar polish to clean the body and fretboard.
  9. Check the intonation of the strings, and make any adjustments at the bridge as needed.
  10. Enjoy your newly strung guitar, and make some music.
